Davids out for three months at Ajax

AFC Ajax will be without Edgar Davids as they try to reach the UEFA Champions League after the midfielder was ruled out for three months with a broken leg.

AFC Ajax will be without veteran midfielder Edgar Davids for their bid to reach the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League after he was ruled out for at least three months with a broken leg.

Friendly contest
The 34-year-old former Dutch international, who returned to the Amsterdam club he left in 1991 last January, fractured his left shin bone in a challenge during a friendly against Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday. The match in Deventer had come after a week’s training camp in De Lutte as Ajax prepare for the start of the new Eredivisie season and their two-legged UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie next month. Ajax, who added to their squad on Friday with the signings of Denmark winger Dennis Rommedahl and Spanish striker Ismael Urzaiz, do not expect Davids to return until mid-October at the earliest.
