Vacancy to fill
Włodarczyk, capped four times by Poland, will be asked to replace Lukasz Piszczek who scored eleven goals in 22 league starts last season while on loan from Hertha BSC Berlin.
Opportunity knocks
"With Zagłębie, I will have the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers as well as to defend the title," said Włodarczyk. The 30-year-old scored 42 goals in 122 Ekstraklasa games for Legia, having also played for KS Ruch Chorzów, Slask Wroclaw, AJ Auxerre and RTS Widzew Lódz. "Włodarczyk is a dynamic player who will work hard against opposition defences," Zagłębie coach Czesław Michniewicz added.
Loan star
Zagłebie have also taken 20-year-old left-back Tiago Gomes on a season's loan from their Portuguese partner club SL Benfica. The player, who won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2003, made five Liga appearances while on loan at CF Estrela da Amadora during the 2006/07 campaign. He is yet to make his Benfica debut.
