Article body
FC Internazionale Milano have signed Chile midfielder Luis Jiménez on loan from third-division outfit Ternana Calcio for €1m with an option to sign him on permanent basis for a reported €11m fee next summer. The Nerazzurri have also secured the signature of Colombia defender Nelson Rivas from CA River Plate.
Capital spell
Jiménez, capped 15 times by his country, joined Ternana in 2002 and played 88 matches in Serie B scoring 25 goals. The 23-year-old made his first appearance in Serie A in January 2005 when he moved to ACF Fiorentina on a six-month loan, playing 19 games and scoring three goals for the Florence side. In January he joined S.S. Lazio, also on loan, playing 16 times in the league and scoring twice before returning to Ternana after failing to agree a permanent move to the capital club.
Colombian success
Rivas, who has been given a contract until 2011, joined River Plate in 2006 and played 14 times in all competitions during his first season. The 24-year-old had previously played for three Colombian clubs, with his 90 league displays for Deportivo Cali eventually earning him a move to the Argentinian giants. Jiménez and Rivas, who have both trained with the Nerazzuri already, will not be the only new recruits at Inter, with the club having already signed Honduras forward David Suazo. After winning the 2006/07 Serie A title, Inter will enter the UEFA Champions League in September's group stage.
