Farfán looks to the long term

PSV Eindhoven striker Jefferson Farfán knows his team-mates need him to provide the fire power to produce an unexpected comeback against Liverpool FC in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, but the Peruvian international is setting his sights slightly further ahead.

While PSV will be doing their best to claw their way back from three goals down at Anfield, Farfán is aware that their recent league form is another major consideration and Wednesday's match gives the Eredivisie leaders a chance to regroup after a rocky period on the domestic front. "It's going to be difficult against Liverpool but we have to try to play well because that would give us a lot of confidence for the weekend and the rest of the season," said the 22-year-old, who has shaken off a hamstring problem.

Video nasty
PSV are still two points clear of AZ Alkmaar and AFC Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie, but Saturday's 2-1 defeat at NEC Nijmegen was their fourth successive game without a league victory and coach Ronald Koeman wants lessons learned from the weekend display. Farfán said: "We watched a video of the defeat and we saw that we made some incredible errors. It was difficult to get into the game and NEC played well."

Goal ambition
Farfán has had 15 shots in this UEFA Champions League campaign without finding the net and said his personal ambition is to break that duck on Merseyside. "I haven't scored a goal in the Champions League this season so I hope to change that against Liverpool," he said. "Of course, it's something that every striker wants to do, but maybe I will be happy just to give some assists to help the team get a good result."
