'Amazing' goal fails to faze Mourinho

José Mourinho insists his Chelsea FC side are capable of reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals despite conceding an away goal against Valencia CF.

Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho had no complaints about the outcome of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg at Stamford Bridge, believing his side are capable of triumphing at the Mestalla next Tuesday. Visiting coach Quique Sánchez Flores agreed that David Silva's away goal - described by his opposite number as "amazing" - gives his Valencia CF team the advantage yet insists they must play on the front foot in the return leg.

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
I think the result was correct. The game was not an amazing one but they scored an amazing goal. I think we had more of the ball in and around the box, but we have to accept that the result is a fair one. It's 1-1 and maybe everybody thinks Valencia are one step ahead. Valencia will believe this because they are playing at home and maybe they have an advantage. I believe it is possible for Chelsea to win in Valencia or draw 1-1. It's a good challenge.

Quique Sánchez Flores, Valencia coach
We've got objective one achieved, which means the tie will be settled at the Mestalla. In the first half everything went well, although the second half was more difficult. They set up their team as we expected and I believe we set up our team as they expected. It would be foolish to sit back and defend against a team like Chelsea in the second leg. Games against English teams are big games, and Valencia players rise to the occasion and enjoy the physical contest.
