After helping his side defeat European champions FC Barcelona on Sunday, Valencia CF defender Emiliano Moretti is adamant that no side is invincible. Not even FC Internazionale Milano, despite the fact that the Serie A leaders have won their last 16 games.
Strong opponents
Speaking on the eve of the sides' meeting in a UEFA Champions League first knockout round first-leg tie at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, the 25-year-old Italian said: "Inter are a strong side, have won lots of game in Italy and have several quality players. However, no side are invincible and we know our own strengths very well. They have been playing well for a while in Serie A but the UEFA Champions League is a different matter." Moretti, who made his name under Inter coach Roberto Mancini at ACF Fiorentina, added: "We are playing over 180 minutes and we will see who will win after that. I think it will be a very close match."
Great motivation
Miguel Ángel Angulo and David Villa scored the weekend goals which helped Valencia defeat Barcelona and haul themselves back into the Spanish title race. "We played very well against Barcelona and we have great motivation as a result," Moretti said. "However, for a match like this you don't need extra motivation. We will certainly give it our all." Local newspapers have described Valencia as the Spanish side that play football the Italian way - with a solid defence and quick counterattacks. "I don't know if we play an Italian style but we are confident in the way we play," Moretti said. "We know exactly what we are doing on the pitch and hopefully tomorrow we will get the right result.
Slight advantage
"We came here to play our own game - it is not our style to play for a draw," he added. "We know we have played well in the competition so far and have a good chance of going through, especially with the slight advantage of having the second leg at the Mestalla Stadium." Not even the bad memories of a 5-1 home defeat against Inter in Valencia's 2004/05 UEFA Champions League campaign can temper Moretti's optimism. "We are a very different team now and I think everything will be decided at the Mestalla Stadium this time," he said. "I think Inter are one of the most complete sides in Europe but we are also a great side and showed it in the group stage when we came top."
