Cork undone by Behan own goal

Cork City FC 0-1 FK Crvena Zvezda The former European champions needed a Denis Behan own goal to take the initiative against Cork.

Former European champions FK Crvena Zvezda needed an own goal from Cork City FC striker Denis Behan to take the initiative in this UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie.

Žigić in demand
The Serbian side scored eight goals in their previous two European ties on Irish soil but had to settle for just one in front of a sell out 5,500 crowd at Turner's Cross. Premiership managers Sam Allardyce of Bolton Wanderers FC and Portsmouth FC's Harry Redknapp were at the game, reportedly to watch towering Crvena Zvezda striker Nikola Žigić, but the only striker to score on the night was Behan - albeit at the wrong end. Defender Marko Perović swung in a corner on 37 minutes and Behan inadvertently sent it past goalkeeper Michael Devine with his knee.

Murray header
Cork almost drew level a minute later from another corner as captain Dan Murray got a head to Neale Fenn's delivery but the header came back off the crossbar. Crvena Zvezda looked happy to protect their lead, confident in their ability to finish the job in Belgrade next week. Cork's task will be made harder by the suspensions of Murray, Danny Murphy and Joe Gamble.
