Míchel charged with Madrid future

Míchel has returned to Real Madrid CF to become coach of the B team while also assuming responsibility for the training complex and the youth system.

'Great responsibility'
The 43-year-old's appointment is part of the new regime introduced by president Ramón Calderón, which has also seen Fabio Capello take charge of first-team affairs and a host of new players linked. "I will put my life into this job," Míchel said. "It is a real gift and a great responsibility. We do not want to produce players that play in just a certain way, we want players that can perform at all levels, physically, mentally and tactically."

Lengthy stay
José Miguel González Martín del Campo, or Míchel, joined Madrid as a player aged 13 and went on to make 404 appearances for the club during a 15-year spell as a professional. The midfielder formed part of the 'Quinta del Buitre' generation that included Emilio Butragueño, Martín Vázquez, Miguel Pardeza and Manuel Sanchís. Capped 60 times by Spain, he ended his career in Mexico before returning to Spain as a football pundit. Last summer he took the helm of Rayo Vallecano in the third tier of Spanish football.
