Nikolaos Lyberopoulos has extended his contract with AEK Athens FC until June 2009.
Major role
The 30-year-old Greece striker's previous deal was due to expire next summer but both he and the club, last season's Alpha Ethniki runners-up, were keen to extend. Capped 42 times by his country, Lyberopoulos has scored 36 goals in 81 league matches for AEK, and will be a major part of their UEFA Champions League challenge when it begins next month in the third qualifying round. He joined in the summer of 2003 after seven seasons with Panathinaikos FC.
