FC Barcelona have signed Chelsea FC forward Eidur Gudjohnsen on a four-year contract after the champion clubs of Spain and England reached agreement.
Two titles
The transfer, for a reported €11.7m, was completed this evening when the 27-year-old Iceland captain successfully passed a medical. Gudjohnsen cost the London side €6m when he joined from Bolton Wanderers FC ahead of the 2000/01 season. He went on to play 263 games, with Gianfranco Zola the only overseas player to have made more appearances in the club's history. His honours at Chelsea include two Premiership titles and the English League Cup.
Larsson replacement
Gudjohnsen, who has been capped 40 times by his country and scored 16 goals, will help fill the gap at the Camp Nou left by Henrik Larsson, with the Sweden striker returning to his homeland this summer. He is the first new face at Barcelona since their UEFA Champions League triumph last month, while Chelsea have made five signings including Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko.
