FC Bayern München midfielder Ali Karimi has had his contract extended until 2007, despite being sidelined with an ankle injury at the weekend.
Ankle injury
The versatile Iranian international came on for the second half of Bayern's 2-1 home defeat by Hamburger SV on Saturday, but was withdrawn within 16 minutes after sustaining a knock. He underwent surgery immediately and will spend the next ten days in plaster.
Contract clause
However, the Hamburg match saw the 27-year-old make his 25th first-team appearance for Bayern, automatically triggering a clause in his contract - which was due to expire in June - giving him an extra season to prove his worth in Munich.
