Arsenal ailed by Campbell woe

Sol Campbell is likely to miss the first leg of Arsenal FC's last-16 tie against Real Madrid CF after a scan revealed bruising to his ankle bone.

Arsenal FC captain Sol Campbell is likely to miss the first leg of the English Premiership side's UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie against Real Madrid CF after a scan revealed bruising to his ankle bone.

Turbulent spell
The England defender will be out for up to three weeks after sustaining the knock during the first half of Arsenal's 3-2 defeat by London rivals West Ham United FC last week. The 31-year-old was withdrawn at the interval and left Highbury immediately, but he has since cleared the air with Arsène Wenger and the manager was sanguine about the result of today's examination.

Touré return
"You'll laugh," the Frenchman told the club's website. "Sol has come back but he's out now because of a foot problem. He played for two or three weeks with it but the injury became worse against West Ham. We had a scan and he will be out for two or three weeks." The blow will be softened by the return of Ivorian international Kolo Touré from international duty at the African Cup of Nations, while Gaël Clichy is set to resume training after three months out with a broken foot.
