Boyd buoyed by Villarreal tie

Kris Boyd cannot wait to represent Rangers FC, the club he supported as a boy, in the UEFA Champions League after sealing a €585,000 move to Ibrox from Kilmarnock FC.

The 22-year-old has emerged as hot property in Scotland this season after plundering a league-leading 15 goals for Kilmarnock. He has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the reigning champions, and will hope to make his debut in the home Scottish Cup tie against Peterhead FC on 7 January. Manager Alex McLeish said: "Kris is a young striker with great potential. We have been monitoring his progress very closely for a couple of years now. We hope he can develop further at Rangers."

'Fantastic'
With Rangers having become the first Scottish club to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, Boyd is already dreaming of turning out against Villarreal CF in February. "I was at the game at Ibrox as Rangers qualfied for the last 16 and to have the chance of playing in the competition is fantastic," he said. "It's up to me now to take advantage of this chance. I can't wait to play with guys like Dado Pršo and Barry Ferguson - I can only learn from them."
