Broken metatarsal
Abidal left the pitch after just 12 minutes of France's 3-2 friendly win against Costa Rica in Martinique on Wednesday, and tests have now revealed the extent of the damage. "Lyon medical staff have diagnosed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in the left foot which is not connected to the injuries the player suffered in July," said a club spokesman. "It will not require surgery but several months of rest."
Lyon aggrieved
Lyon allowed six players to take part in the match on 9 November, which was not an official international date, and are now upset that the 26-year-old has been injured in friendly action for a second time this season. Abidal sustained a broken toe in Lyon's Peace Cup game against CD Once Caldas in the Korean Republic in July which caused him to miss the start of the domestic campaign.
