United suffer Keane upset

Manchester United FC and Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane could be out for up to two months after breaking a metatarsal in his left foot.

Manchester United FC captain Roy Keane could be out for up to two months after breaking a metatarsal in his left foot.

Crucial absence
The Republic of Ireland midfield player suffered the injury in Sir Alex Ferguson's side's goalless draw against European champions Liverpool FC on Sunday and could now be sidelined for United's next three UEFA Champions League games. Keane, 34, also missed the Group D opener at Villarreal CF on Wednesday with a hamstring injury, and was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI at Anfield as he was expected to be out until the end of the month.

Irish blow
The news is also a blow to the Republic of Ireland's 2006 FIFA World Cup hopes as Keane, who is already suspended for the meeting with Cyprus on 8 October, looks certain to miss the final qualifier against Switzerland four days later.
