Quality players
The 22-year-old arrived on the east coast of Spain for a medical today before penning a four-year contract. Coach Manuel Luis Pellegrini had been striving to sign two quality goalkeepers following the €8.7m sale of previous No1 José Manuel Reina to Liverpool FC, and has now done so having earlier recruited Argentinian Mariano Barbosa from CA Banfield.
Squad closed
"This is going to be a tough season and we knew we had to strengthen the goalkeeping position," said chairman Fernando Roig. "With the signing of Viera we have finalised our squad for the season - there will be no more arrivals." Barbosa played in both legs as Villarreal defeated Everton FC to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, where they will tackle Manchester United FC, SL Benfica and LOSC Lille Métropole.
