Chevantón causes Monaco concern

French side Monaco, who trail Tuesday's visitors Real Betis Balompié 1-0 following a defeat in Spain, have lost striker Ernesto Chevantón. The Uruguayan picked up a thigh injury in the 1-0 Ligue 1 loss at FC Girondins de Bordeaux on Saturday. Fellow forward Emmanuel Adebayor is another concern with a back injury.

Everton travel to Villarreal CF trailing 2-1 from the first leg with preparations hampered by knee injuries sustained by left-back Alessandro Pistone and forward Marcus Bent in yesterday's 1-0 win at Bolton Wanderers FC. While the latter should be fit, Pistone's hopes of playing for the English side have been described as a "long shot".

Striker Manasseh Ishiaku's thigh injury during Club Brugge KV's 1-0 win against KSV Roeselare on Saturday will keep him out for several weeks, starting with Wednesday's visit of Vålerenga IF. The Belgian lost the first leg 1-0 and were already without the injured Rune Lange and suspended Victor in attack, while defender Olivier De Cock twisted his ankle in training last week and is a major doubt. Vålerenga, meanwhile, are without midfielder Stefan Ishizaki (knee) and forward Tore André Flo (thigh).

Malmö FF, another side trailing 1-0, head to FC Thun in Switzerland without newly retired Patrik Andersson and concern over another central defender, Olof Persson, who picked up a knee injury in Saturday’s 1-1 Swedish championship draw at Örgryte IS. Finnish attacker Jari Litmanen has achilles trouble and may also miss out.

SK Slavia Praha will feel more confident of coming back from 2-1 down as the Czech side welcome RSC Anderlect at nearly full strength. However, midfielder Patrik Gedeon is a concern having missed the last two league games, including Saturday's 3-2 win against FK Jablonec, with tonsillitis.

Swiss champions FC Basel 1893 will travel to Werder Bremen for their second leg on Wednesday without attacker Mladen Petric. He tore a thigh muscle in Saturday's 7-2 win against FC Aarau and could be out for several weeks. Petric played a part in both Basel goals when the Swiss champions were 2-1 winners against the German side on 10 August.

FC Artmedia Bratislava coach Vladimír Weiss has two potential problems before Tuesday's match in Belgrade against FK Partizan. The Slovakian champions have seen centre-back Ján Durica pick up an ankle injury and midfielder Branislav Obzera suffer knee trouble, although both have travelled to Belgrade with the tie level at 0-0. Partizan have a worry about right-back Milivoje Cirkovic, with a knee injury keeping him out of the 1-0 win at FK Javor Ivanjica on Friday.

Wisla Kraków striker Tomasz Frankowski may miss out when his side play at Panathinaikos FC on Tuesday, with the visitors holding a 3-1 advantage from the first leg. The in-form forward suffered a foot injury on international duty with Poland last week and is facing a race against time to be fit.

Finally, Liverpool FC, with a 3-1 lead, will still feel confident of finishing the job at home against PFC CSKA Sofia on Tuesday, despite seeing captain Steven Gerrard miss out with a calf injury picked up in Saturday's 1-0 home win against Sunderland AFC.
