Three-year absence
Drobný, who was part of the Czech side that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2002 in Switzerland, is Sparta's sixth acquisition of the summer. The tall centre-back returns to the Czech First Division after three years abroad, spending the first two years of those with Strasbourg before joining Aston Villa FC on loan in 2004/05. Strasbourg coach Jacky Duguépéroux had indicated to the 24-year-old that he would not feature in his plans for the coming campaign.
'In my heart'
Drobný previously joined Sparta aged ten and spent eight seasons there before moving to FK Chmel Blšany. He played 78 times and scored one goal for the club before joining Strasbourg in May 2002. He made his debut for the Czech Republic against Italy last year, and also played against Japan in Prague earlier this year. Drobný said: "I'm very happy about my return to Sparta. I grew up here and Sparta will always be in my heart."
