Anorthosis Famagusta FC made the most of their 3-1 first-leg win as Fatih Tekke's goal for Trabzonspor proved insufficient to stop the Cypriot title-holders reaching the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round in Turkey.
Team changes
Trabzonspor coach Senol Günes fielded Adem Koçak to replace suspended Guinean forward Ibrahima Yattara, while last season's top goalscorer Fatih Tekke also took his place in the starting lineup. Anorthosis coach Temur Ketsbaia made three changes from the starting eleven that began last week's encounter, with Nikolaos Frousos brought in for Leonidas Kampantais, Albanian Altin Haxhi named in place of Constandinos Samaras and Loukas Louka replacing Georgios Xenidis.
Hope for Trabzonspor
Fatih Tekke, recently recovered from groin surgery, gave Trabzonspor hope in the tie when he headed in Gökdeniz Karadeniz's cross from the right. The dismissal of the visitors' Nicolaos Katsavakis for his second bookable offence 16 minutes from time increased the problems of the Cypriot side and Trabzonspor piled on the pressure.
Visitors hold on
On 81 minutes Fatih Tekke sent Gökdeniz through, but he shot over the bar. In the closing stages, Mehmet Yilmaz's effort was cleared by the Anorthosis defence before Celaleddin Koçak headed into the goal - only for the effort to be disallowed by Austrian referee Gerald Lehner for offside. A tie against Rangers FC is the reward for Anorthosis, with the Scottish champions visiting Cyprus next week.
