The 23-year-old, who has only just returned from a serious knee injury, suffered the blow in Bremen’s 2-0 friendly win against FC Hansa Rostock on Saturday. Wiese travelled back to his home town of Cologne on Sunday, and will undergo surgery in the next few days.

"We are all in shock," said coach Thomas Schaaf, who is preparing his side for this month's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against FC Basel 1893. "It is an extremely difficult situation for us but we have got excellent goalkeepers in Andreas Reinke and Kasper Jensen."
