Extended deal
The Spanish side have agreed a two-year extension with Fernández which will keep him in Seville until June 2008. If he sees out the deal, the 32-year-old left-back - who joined from Real Racing Club Santander in 1996 - will have spent 12 years with Betis.
Contract expiring
Meanwhile, the 2004/05 Spanish Cup winners, who will compete in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, have told Uruguayan international Tais that he can leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Injury problems
Coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer was unable to call on the 32-year-old for much of the season as he struggled with injuries. After just eleven Primera División appearances and two more in the Spanish Cup, Tais will be looking for a new club.
