Article body
Levante mainstay
Rivera has been a mainstay of Levante's side over the past three seasons and hit eleven goals during their promotion-winning 2003/04 campaign. The 27-year-old playmaker then scored five times last season but his team were unable to avoid dropping back into the Segunda División and are now in the position of having to sell some of their star players.
Champions League bow
Rivera graduated from Real Madrid CF's youth system and was loaned to CD Numancia and Olympique de Marseille before Levante signed him in 2002. Betis will make their UEFA Champions League debut in the third qualifying round, and will learn their August opponents on 29 July.
