Lyon lengthen Caçapa contract

Olympique Lyonnais captain Claudio Caçapa has signed a two-year contract extension with the French champions.

Return nears
The 28-year-old full back has been out of action since 30 October with knee ligament damage, but should be back in a fortnight and now has a further boost before his comeback.

President's promise
"Everything was decided that night," said club president Jean-Michel Aulas of the day the defender was injured against RC Strasbourg. "Claudio was crying. I saw his distress and said to him that, whatever the situation with his knee, he would be given a contract extension."

'A good job'
The Brazilian, who joined Lyon from Clube Atlético Mineiro in January 2001 and has helped them to three league titles, said: "This extension proves I have done a good job." Caçapa can look forward to leading his side in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League against Werder Bremen, beginning with the away leg on 23 February.
