'Real setback'
The 29-year-old Czech goalkeeper suffered the injury in a challenge on Russian striker Anatoli Gerk, and will be out of action for the next six to eight weeks. "It is a real setback for Daniel and for us, because he was going through a very strong period," Anderlecht coach Hugo Broos said. Zitka had just regained the starter's role in the Anderlecht side amid intense competition from Tristan Peersman.
Injury worries
To compound Broos' problems, the Belgian 25-year-old goalkeeper is also considered doubtful to face Inter because he has still not fully recovered from an achilles problem. "In the best case, Peersman will be fit enough for the [substitutes'] bench," Broos said. "But we may only be able to take one goalkeeper with us to Milan, because the youth goalkeepers are also injured."
Van Steenberghe starts
That one goalkeeper would be third choice Jan van Steenberghe. The 32-year-old former KSC Eendracht Aalst goalkeeper is expected to make his first Champions League appearance of the season. Anderlecht will bow out of Europe after finishing bottom of Group G whatever the result on Tuesday.
