Albelda ruled out for Valencia

David Albelda will miss the rest of the UEFA Champions League group stage after tearing a hamstring in training.

Valencia CF captain David Albelda will miss the rest of the UEFA Champions League group stage after tearing a hamstring in training.

Small tear
Albelda required treatment after suffering severe pain in his right leg. The head of medical services at Valencia, Jorge Candel, confirmed that the Spanish international has suffered a two centimetre hamstring tear and will be sidelined for the next month. It will also cost him the chance of playing for his country against England in next Wednesday's friendly.

Bitter blow
The absence of Albelda is a bitter blow to Valencia who are five points adrift of second-placed Werder Bremen in Group G. To progress to the last 16 they must win at RSC Anderlecht on 24 November then defeat Bremen 13 days later - while hoping that the German side do not defeat leaders FC Internazionale Milano on Matchday 5.
