Article body
Excellent season
Šimic enjoyed an excellent first season at Milan after joining from city rivals FC Internazionale Milano, culminating in a UEFA Champions League final victory against Juventus FC. The Croatian lost his place to Cafu last season, however, and injuries have prevented him adding to his 39 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri this term.
EURO outings
The 29-year-old's last competitive outings came at UEFA EURO 2004™ where he played all three of his country's group games, and medical staff decided that surgery was the most effective method of getting him back in contention. Šimic is the third Milan player to be operated on this month after Jaap Stam and Filippo Inzaghi.
