The 30-year-old, who last month retired from the German national side, complained of a knee problem before Bayern's opening Bundesliga match of the season against Hamburger SV and further examination revealed that he needed minor surgery.
Magath comments
Today he was operated on in Heidelberg, to clean the cartilage area of his knee. Bayern coach Felix Magath, whose team begin their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign on 14/15 September, said: "At least we know he will be available when the season starts hotting up in mid-September."
