Vignal secures Rangers loan

The French defender Grégory Vignal has left Liverpool FC to sign for Rangers FC on a season-long loan.

Pre-season success
The 23-year-old Liverpool FC left-back has been snapped up by manager Alex McLeish after a successful trial in which he turned out for the Glasgow club in pre-season friendlies against Tottenham Hotspur FC, Newcastle United FC and Feyenoord.

Two big clubs
Vignal is looking forward to first-team action after failing to establish himself in the English Premiership at Anfield. "Rangers is a big club like Liverpool," he said. "I think we're going to have a very good team this season, so I'm very pleased to be here." The former Montpellier Hérault SC player was on loan at RCD Espanyol in Spain last term.

Champions League challenge
Rangers face PFC CSKA Moskva in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round next week. Having been registered with UEFA before today's 12.00CET deadline, Vignal is eligible for selection for that tie.
