Article body
FC Bayern München striker Claudio Pizarro will miss the start of the Bundesliga season after fracturing his skull while playing for Peru at the Copa América.
Red card and injury
The 25-year-old complained of dizziness and nausea after the 3-1 win against Venezuela on Friday evening, a match in which Pizarro was sent off for two bookable offences four minutes from the end. Scans then revealed that he had fractured his skull.
One month out
Peru's team doctor, Ramón Aparicio, informed the player that he will have to rest for at least one month. The forward will therefore miss Bayern's first match of the season against Hamburger SV on 7 August, but should be back for the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage on 14-15 September.
