Monaco call on Kallon

AS Monaco FC have signed Sierra Leone striker Mohamed Kallon from FC Internazionale for a reported fee of €5m.

Four-year deal
The 24-year-old has joined last season's UEFA Champions League finalists on a four-year deal after Monaco bought out the remainder of his contract with Inter. He will help fill the gap left by the departure of Dado Pršo and Fernando Morientes who led the line for the club last season.

New pairing
"With [Javier] Chevanton [who arrived last week from US Lecce], Kallon is set to become part of a new striking partnership," said a statement released by the club a few minutes after Kallon signed his new contract.

Previous experience
Kallon joined Inter from Swiss side FC Lugano in the 1995/96 season and subsequently had loan spells at a number of clubs - Bologna FC, Genoa 1893, Cagliari Calcio, Reggina Calcio and AC Vicenza. After being drafted into the Inter squad, he scored 14 goals in the course of 42 games in three seasons at the San Siro

Fellow African
Kallon will join another African striker in Didier Deschamps' side, Shabani Nonda. The Congolese player is currently injured, however, and is unlikely to feature in the first team for at least two months.

Seven signings
The man from Sierra Leone is Monaco's seventh signing of the closed season following the arrivals of goalkeeper Fabien Audard from ES Troyes AC; defenders Maicon from Cruzeiro EC and François-Joseph Modesto from Cagliari Calcio; midfield players Diego Pérez from CA Peñarol and Seyi Olofinjana from Norwegian side SK Brann; and Uruguayan striker Chevanton.
