UEFA Champions League finalists AS Monaco FC have signed Brazilian defender Maicon from EC Cruzeiro for an undisclosed fee.
Four-year deal
The highly rated 22-year-old right-back has signed a four-year deal and is seen as an ideal replacement for Argentinian Hugo Ibarra, who is returning to FC Porto after the completion of his one-year loan.
Brazilian international
Maicon made his domestic top-flight debut in 2001 and his assured performances were soon spotted by the national team, for whom he made his first start in July 2003 against Mexico. He is currently in Brazil's squad for the Copa America qualifiers, hoping to build on his record of one goal in five games for the FIFA World Cup holders.
