Mixed season
Despite Pizarro's dip in form after scoring nine goals in 16 appearances before the winter break, Bayern were keen to extend the 25-year-old's existing deal, which had 12 months left to run. Bayern will hope for better things in the coming three years, not least in the UEFA Champions League where Pizarro failed to score in his seven outings this season.
'Important player'
"Claudio is an important player and we are certain that he can return to the form of the first half of the season," said general manager Uli Hoeness. The Peruvian international has scored 41 goals in 91 games for Bayern since arriving from SV Werder Bremen in summer 2001.
