New challenge
The 33-year-old had one year left on his contract with the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists but is keen for a new challenge. After an explosive start at the Riazor, his first-team opportunities dwindled in recent seasons and he spent the 2002/03 campaign on loan at FK Austria Wien.
Praise for fans
Hinting that he was considering a move back to his homeland, Djalminha said: "I will never forget the generosity and warmth of the Deportivo fans, particularly during difficult moments. Knowing that they have been with me all along has been a source of motivation for me. Staying in Spain is an option but I think that I will continue my life in another country."
