Improper conduct
The full-back was originally suspended by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body last Monday on a charge of improper conduct after retaliating to a foul by Bayern's Martin Demichelis during the second half of the first-leg tie on 24 February. Roberto Carlos scored Madrid's goal in the 1-1 draw.
TV evidence
UEFA opened an inquiry after TV evidence showed Roberto Carlos hitting out at Demichelis after being fouled by the Argentinian defender, who received a yellow card. Match referee Terje Hauge cautioned Demichelis for the challenge, but was unable to see Roberto Carlos's reaction because two players were impeding his view.
Foul taken into account
In taking the initial verdict last week, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body said that Roberto Carlos had committed an act of assault, which usually carries a three-match ban. However, it took into account the foul committed on the Brazilian, and subsequently imposed a two-match suspension.
