Scan confirms damage
The Brazilian international, who is ruled out of his country's friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, sustained the injury during Sunday's 2-1 French league win at AJ Auxerre. Club doctor Jean-Jacques Amprino had said after the game, "It sounds rather serious", and his fears were realised by scans on Monday confirming the damage to the player's left knee.
Elber and Berthod doubts
Juninho now faces a struggle to make the trip to Real on 25 February, as does striker Giovane Elber, who skipped the Auxerre match with exactly the same injury as his compatriot. Also a worry is full-back Jérémie Berthod, who pulled a hamstring on Sunday.
