Niggling injury
The 27-year-old Spanish international had been carrying the problem for some time but the injury was aggravated when he took a blow to the joint during the Primera División match with FC Barcelona on 21 December.
Champions League blow
Juanfran underwent an operation on Thursday and club medics estimate that he will be sidelined for around eight weeks, ruling him out of Celta's UEFA Champions League first knockout-round matches against Arsenal FC on 24 February and 10 March.
