Bayern pair strike new deals

FC Bayern München's Mehmet Scholl and Thomas Linke have agreed one-year contract extensions.

FC Bayern München's longest-serving player, Mehmet Scholl, and defensive stalwart Thomas Linke have both signed one-year extensions to contracts due to expire in the summer.

Numerous honours
Bayern confirmed the news from Dubai, where the German champions are in training for the resumption of the Bundesliga on 31 January. The 33-year-old Scholl joined Bayern in 1992 and has been a mainstay of a side which has won numerous honours, including Bundesliga titles in 1998, 2000 and 2002, the UEFA Cup and, most memorably, the UEFA Champions League in 2001, a campaign in which he scored five goals.

Madrid next
Like Scholl, Linke played in the penalty shoot-out defeat of Valencia CF. The 34-year-old arrived at the Olympiastadion from FC Schalke 04 in 1998 and featured in the Champions League final defeat by Manchester United FC. Linke played three times as Bayern progressed to the knockout stage of this season's Champions League where they will play Real Madrid CF over two legs.
