Debut in 1992
At 40 years, three months and 24 days, the Brugge goalkeeper surpassed by a week the record set by the former Olympiacos CFP player, Tasos Mitropoulos, against Rosenborg BK six years ago. Verlinden made his Champions League debut on the first-ever matchday on 25 November 1992, a 1-0 home victory against PFC CSKA Moskva.
