Keeper Verlinden sets new mark

Club Brugge KV's Dany Verlinden tonight became the oldest player in UEFA Champions League history.

Debut in 1992
At 40 years, three months and 24 days, the Brugge goalkeeper surpassed by a week the record set by the former Olympiacos CFP player, Tasos Mitropoulos, against Rosenborg BK six years ago. Verlinden made his Champions League debut on the first-ever matchday on 25 November 1992, a 1-0 home victory against PFC CSKA Moskva.
