Zé Roberto leads injury worries

FC Bayern München have a doubt about Zé Roberto while Celtic FC and Rangers FC have problems of their own.

Back problem
Bayern's delight at winning 1-0 against city rivals TSV 1860 München on Saturday was soured by the news that Brazilian winger Zé Roberto is a major doubt for Tuesday's Group A trip to Celtic. The player has a back injury and, speaking to the club's website, Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said: "He's just been doing some light training, it's 50-50 whether he'll play on Tuesday." Bayern will also be without German international midfield player Sebastian Deisler who has been diagnosed with depression by doctors and is likely to be out of action until the new year.

Celtic wait
Celtic, meanwhile, are waiting on the fitness of Sweden goalkeeper Magnus Hedman after he suffered a back spasm during the 5-1 victory at Dundee United FC on Saturday. Scottish international Robert Douglas is on stand-by and Celtic manager Martin O'Neill said: "We'll need to assess the injury over the next day or two." However, O'Neill, whose team are second in Group A with six points, one point behind Olympique Lyonnais and one in front of Bayern, has been boosted by the return of Alan Thompson and Liam Miller.

Arteta out
Rangers FC face a must-win encounter at VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday, as they lie in third place in Group E, five points adrift of their opponents. However, they have lost Mikel Arteta after he damaged an ankle in Saturday's 3-0 win against Aberdeen FC. "Mikel has undergone a scan and we will know the results of this on Monday, but he is certainly out of the Stuttgart game," said manager Alex McLeish.

Ooijer staying behind
PSV Eindhoven have suffered a double setback before their Group C trip to AS Monaco FC on Tuesday with André Ooijer and Dennis Rommedahl both staying behind. Dutch international defender Ooijer limped off with a knee problem during the 3-2 win at NEC Nijmegen on Saturday while Danish winger Rommedahl's shin injury kept him out of the starting lineup.

Bergkamp not going
Arsenal FC have confirmed that non-flying Dutch forward Dennis Bergkamp, who scored in the 3-0 weekend victory against Birmingham City FC, will not be travelling to Milan for Tuesday night's Group B match against Internazionale FC. Inter won 6-0 against Reggina Calcio on Saturday although they had to make do without Emre Belözoglu as the Turkish international has a knee injury. He was hurt on international duty last week and, like Francesco Coco, is unlikely to figure against Arsenal.

Italian hopes
There is better news for two of Inter's Italian rivals with several players due back for AC Milan and S.S. Lazio. Milan are hoping to recall Paolo Maldini and Filippo Inzaghi for Wednesday's trip to AFC Ajax while Lazio could have Stefano Fiore and Roberto Muzzi back for the visit of Besiktas JK. One worry for Lazio is the knee of Dejan Stankovic, with tests due today on the injury.

Maxwell woe
As for Milan and Lazio's opponents, the news is mixed. Ajax look set to be without defender Maxwell after a weekend knock. Ajax coach Ronald Koeman said: "We will have to see on Monday, he got a direct hit on the knee." Besiktas, meanwhile, rested Ilhan Mansiz and Federico Giunti at the weekend although there is a doubt over Kaan Dobra.

Spanish sweating
Finally in Spain, Real Madrid CF are waiting on the fitness of defenders Roberto Carlos and Francisco Pavón, RC Deportivo La Coruña are hopeful Diego Tristán can recover from a calf sprain and Real Sociedad de Fútbol's Javier De Pedro is hopeful of overcoming a thigh strain.
