AC Milan attacking midfield player Andrea Pirlo has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of June 2008.
European honour
The Milan club, who signed Pirlo from city rivals Internazionale FC in 2001, were keen to secures the 24-year-old's long-term future after his role in their 2002/03 UEFA Champions League success. He began his career with Brescia Calcio before a move to Inter in 1998 and made his name two years later by scoring twice in the 2000 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final as Italy beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in Bratislava.
Champions League triumph
Pirlo made his full Italian debut in September 2002 against Azerbaijan, and last season played an important part in Milan's season as they won the Champions League and Italian Cup. Pirlo has played in both Milan's Champions League games this season, as they have beaten AFC Ajax 1-0 and drawn 0-0 at RC Celta de Vigo to give them an early lead in Group H.
