Ajax hit by Grygera absence

AFC Ajax defender Zdenek Grygera will be out for several weeks after he tore a hamstring in midweek.

Hamstring tear
The Czechs' 3-1 victory in Prague not only ended Dutch hopes of automatic qualification for UEFA EURO 2004 but it also hurt Ajax as Grygera limped out of the action just 25 minutes into the match. The 23-year-old has suffered a small tear in his left hamstring and Ajax confirmed today that "the recovery period is expected to be three weeks".

Misses Milan trip
This means coach Ronald Koeman could well be without Grygera, a summer signing from AC Sparta Praha, for Ajax's first two UEFA Champions League matches of the season, against AC Milan and Club Brugge KV. He is also expected to miss the Eredivisie matches against RKC Waalwijk, NAC Breda and Willem II.
