Crowe crowns Bohemians comeback

Bohemian FC secured a place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against Norwegian side Rosenborg BK as they overcame a first-leg deficit to knock out FC BATE Borisov of Belarus.

Crowe seals win
Two goals in the first half put the Irish Premier Division champions on the way to victory, and Republic of Ireland striker Glen Crowe sealed the win with a third goal in the second half.

Deadlock broken
Bohemians had to wait until the 36th minute before breaking the deadlock, when midfielder Stephen Caffrey fired a shot past keeper Yuri Zhaunov after a cross from the right wing by Barry Ryan.

Tense moments
There were some tense moments for the Irish side before that. They had looked the more impressive side, with striker William Doyle especially dangerous, but BATE were also a threat on the break. Valeri Stripeikis was denied by a block from Damien Lynch on 19 minutes, and centre half Colin Hawkins cut out the danger from Pavel Shimera on 24 minutes.

Ryan effort
Caffrey eventually put Bohemians ahead on 36 minutes and, seconds before the half-time whistle, winger Ryan made it 2-0, collecting a cross from Doyle and firing his first goal in UEFA competition.

Deflated BATE
Striker Crowe was having a quiet night but he popped up on 58 minutes to score from a cross by left winger Mark Rutherford. Now 3-1 down on aggregate, the Belarussians looked deflated and offered little further threat.
