AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta is rated doubtful for Saturday's derby game against Internazionale FC and could miss the first match of the UEFA Champions League second group stage.
Nesta doubt for Madrid
The Italian international limped out of the weekend league win over Parma AC and tests subsequently revealed a problem with his left thigh. He will undergo a second scan on Friday, but according to Milan club doctor Jean Pierre Meersseman "it is highly unlikely he will recover in time for Saturday". The fear now is that Nesta will also sit out next Tuesday's Champions League Group C tie against holders Real Madrid CF at San Siro.
Redondo back in training
There will be better news for the Serie A club tomorrow, however, when Argentinian midfield player Fernando Redondo returns to first-team training after a two-and-a-half-year absence. "Starting tomorrow, I will resume training alongside my team-mates," said Redondo, who has had three operations on a knee injury. "I have been improving day by day, and this has given me the strength to continue my rehabilitation."
December date
Redondo has not played since the 2000 Champions League final against Valencia CF - his last match in a Madrid shirt before he joined Milan. The 33-year-old is expected to be fit for selection in December.
