Article body
Real Madrid CF pair Ronaldo and Claude Makelele will miss Tuesday's UEFA Champions League second group stage opener at AC Milan.
Ronaldo illness
FIFA World Cup winner Ronaldo missed Saturday’s Primera División draw with FC Barcelona suffering from flu and was not named in the 20-man squad for the Group C fixture at San Siro, where the Brazilian played for Internazionale FC until this summer.
Twisted ankle
French international midfield player Makelele was then carried off on a stretcher 63 minutes into the goalless Camp Nou encounter with a twisted ankle after a challenge from Thiago Motta and is to undergo tests to discover the extent of the injury.
Zidane return
Madrid captain Fernando Hierro remains sidelined, also with a twisted ankle sustained against KRC Genk on Champions League Matchday Six - a tie that Ronaldo and Makelele also did not take part in - but Zinedine Zidane is set to travel to Milan after returning to training following a back problem that kept him out of the Barcelona game.
Other fixture
Tuesday’s other opening Group C match sees BV Borussia Dortmund travel to newly-crowned Russian champions FC Lokomotiv Moskva.
