AEK boss bailed out

AEK Athens FC owner Makis Psomiadis has won a temporary reprieve from his jail sentence.

Temporary suspension
The Greek court of appeals accepted Psomiadis's plea for a temporary suspension of his sentence due to health reasons and financial problems deriving from his detention.

Enemy of the state
Psomiadis was found guilty of forgery against the Greek state in a case dating back to his time as owner of the To Onoma newspaper in February 1996. He had published a forged document accusing then government minister Kostas Laliotis of receiving payment from a German consortium bidding for the contract to build the new Athens airport.
