Article body
German international goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will miss FC Bayern München's potentially decisive trip to face RC Deportivo La Coruña in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Wessels on hold
Kahn tore a right thigh muscle in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at AC Milan, ruling him out for the 1. Bundesliga match against Hannover 96 on Saturday as well as the game in Spain, which Bayern must win to avoid their first-ever exit in the group stages of the competition.
Kahn hopeful
"I twisted my knee as I landed and suddenly felt a stabbing pain," said Kahn after the loss against Milan. "We'll have to wait and see how it develops. There's still some bruising."
Wessels steps in
Reserve goalkeeper Stefan Wessels is expected to replace Kahn. "He has always been reliable when we used him," Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said of Wessels. "He's very calm, he has a great potential and the team trust him."
Bayern bottom
Bayern are bottom of Group G with only one point to show from four games. They have reached at least the quarter-finals of the Champions League in every season since 1997/98, winning the final in 2000/01, after a penalty shoot-out against Valencia CF in which Kahn starred.
