Ronaldo was presented to the world's press as a Real Madrid CF player today after finally completing his move from Internazionale FC.
'Good things'
"I really wanted to come to Madrid, and I hope to live up to the responsibility," Ronaldo said. "[I want] to do good things and to score goals and to live up to everybody's hopes." The 25-year-old passed a medical this morning and more than 300 journalists from around the world and 30 television cameras descended on the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to see the Brazilian FIFA World Cup winner.
'Enormous affection'
Madrid president Florentino Pérez said: "Today we are presenting Ronaldo as a a Real Madrid player. The first thing I want to say is that he is here because he wanted to come here. He has made sacrifices to come here and has shown enormous affection for the club. We shouldn't forget that, and we have to return that affection to him."
Pay cut
The deal, estimated to be worth €45m, was thought to be dead just days ago but the Italians, forced to accept that Ronaldo would not play for them again, decided to sell. The player himself is believed to have accepted a pay cut to move to Madrid.
'Best club in the world'
"Ronaldo's one of the best players in the world," Pérez continued. "He is also a universal person. You can see what sort of a person he is when you look him in the eyes. We have the most universal player and he has joined Madrid, the most universal of clubs. Hopefully he will write some glorious pages in the club and together we hope to keep Real Madrid as the best club in the world."
