Rosenborg's experience tells

Brøndby IF 2-3 Rosenborg BK (Aggregate: 2-4) Rosenborg do it again.

Brøndby IF 2-3 Rosenborg BK (Rosenborg win 4-2 on aggregate)
Rosenborg BK booked their eighth successive appearance in the UEFA Champions League as a 3-2 win at Brøndby IF secured a 4-2 aggregate success. Two goals from Frode Johnsen and a third from Harald Brattbakk undid the Danish champions as the Norwegians used all their experience to overcome a battling Brøndby side.

Promising Kahlenberg
Brøndby, heavily supported by a 24,000 crowd, had the better of the opening stages with young protégé Thomas Kahlenberg showing plenty of promise in midfield. The 22-year-old masterminded the first attack of the game, when he combined brilliantly with Swedish import Mattias Jonson to create space down the left flank but Jonson's final cross was lacking.

Olesen to the rescue
Rosenborg, aiming for a quick goal to deflate the Danes, nearly got just that when Bent Skammelsrud got on the end of a curling corner from Ørjan Berg but Allan Olesen cleared the ball off the line. At the other end, Brøndby nearly grabbed the lead when stylish short passing allowed Kaspar Dalgas to launch a stinging drive from the edge of the box but Arni Gautur Arason was on hand to keep the game scoreless.

Johnsen on target
It did not remain scoreless for too long, however, Rosenborg taking the lead after 29 minutes when Johnsen was left unmarked to head home a corner from Bent Skammelsrud. Brøndby, left with a mountain to climb, began the second half like they started the first, throwing everything forward but lacking the all-important final pass.

Ran out of steam
Rosenborg seemed content to leave the initiative to the Danes and as Brøndby ran out of steam, Rosenborg - who looked physically stronger - put the match out of reach. It was Johnsen who did the damage, doubling his tally when he chested the ball down on the edge of the box and struck home on the half volley with 18 minutes remaining.

Brattbakk makes it three
It got worse for Brøndby when Brattbakk - scorer of the only goal of the first leg - made it 3-0 on 78 minutes but Michael Laudrup's side at least restored some pride with two goals in two minutes from Jonson and Mads Jørgensen, who had replaced the injured Morten Wieghorst.

'We lacked experience'
Laudrup said: "We did the best we could but my players lacked the experience to make the most of the chances that we created and you can't do that against such a strong team like Rosenborg. My players showed that there is plenty of promise in the team but there is much work ahead."
