Japanese international Takayuki Suzuki has joined Belgian champions KRC Genk.

President's comments

The 26-year-old player from Kashima Antlers scored Japan's first goal at the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals against Belgium. Genk president Jos Vaesen said of the signing: “In the first months of this year we were offered some Japanese players. We knew that some Japanese players were very successful in Europe last season."

Three prizes
"An important reason for us to sign Suzuki is that our main sponsors have their headquarters in Japan," Vaesen continued. "But this is no act just to satisfy our sponsors. Suzuki is a very talented player, who should be the right player for our attack because we want to compete during the coming season for three prizes." Genk will compete in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League later this summer.
