German international goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is facing a race against time to be fit for the start of the new season.
Finger injury
The FC Bayern München keeper is nursing a finger injury that is worse than first feared according to German Football Association physician Dr Hans William Muller. Having examined the injury, Muller believes it could be six weeks before Kahn can have full use of his hand again, potentially ruling out the 33-year-old from Bayern's opening 1. Bundesliga fixture at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the second week of August.
Qualifier threat
If Kahn does not make a rapid recovery, he could also miss out on the first leg of Bayern's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round fixture on 13 or 14 August.
